Jodie Erica from the MKFM team went to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at Milton Keynes Theatre and here is her review...
The brand-new stage adaptation of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a fabulous comedy about love, taking risks, and embracing new opportunities no matter what age we are.
The show is starring many well-known actors and actresses such as Academy, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-Award winner Hayley Mills (Wild at Heart, Pollyanna, The Parent Trap), household favourite, actor and singer Paul Nicholas (Jesus Christ Superstar, Just Good Friends, Eastenders) and Rula Lenska (Rock Follies, Coronation Street, Eastenders).
The show also features Andy de la Tour (Notting Hill, Star Wars, The Young Ones), Rekha John-Cheriyan (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Tomb Raider, Hollyoaks), and Marlene Sidaway (Coronation Street, Pride, and Prejudice).
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is located in Bangalore, India. The hotel homes 6 elderly British residents that seek excitement and new opportunities, rather than being in a care home for the rest of their lives.
Not only do the residents unpack their belongings and start to settle down within their new exotic retirement home, but they also unpack an array of unresolved and new emotions.
Each character is full of their own individual personality and comes with their own personal story. It doesn't take long before these residents become a family, and that also includes the hotel owners and workers.
This story is one that makes you feel grateful for life, and also makes you want to live and enjoy every moment of it, as the characters say in the show that it all seems to go by very quickly.
It also leaves you feeling empowered and reassured that life is full of endless possibilities and opportunities, no matter what age you are, you can still find love, take risks and embark on new adventures.
Definitely one to see to get you laughing and feeling inspired.
