According to Natwest, more than half of students (53%) have been targeted by criminals in the last year.

New data, released by Rightly, suggests that University students are at high risk of being scammed, and students in Milton Keynes are being warned to keep safe.

"In the past year, more than half of students (53%) have been targeted by criminals according to NatWest. Scams take many different forms and the scammers are trying to exploit this key moment of change in young people’s lives to steal their money.

"Sometimes the scammers pose as bank staff or as if they are from HMRC, sometimes offering fake tax rebates. What they are really after is personal information that they can use to expose the victims to further scams and theft," the data website states.

The most popular student-targeted based scams include:

    • Tuition Fee Scams

    • Student Loans Company and Tax Refund Phishing Emails
