A much-loved mural of MK-born Leah Williamson has been restored after it was mysteriously whitewashed over.

Following the Lionesses 2-1 victory against eight-time champions Germany during the Women's Euros in 2022, Milton Keynes-born Leah Williamson, who captained the team to victory, was recognised with a brand new mural in her hometown of Newport Pagnell.

The mural, created by Marc from MurWalls, celebrated Leah Williamson and featured a lion, along with the England flag.

In May, residents began to rally together after noticing that the much-loved mural had been painted over by an unknown person, in a bid to "tidy it up".

A Crowdfunder was created by the community, raising over £1000 in a bid to bring back the original artists and have the mural restored.

Mark from MurWalls, Gnasher and Mr Meaner have been working on restoring the mural, which is similar to the original with the words 'made in Newport Paggers' added and residents are very pleased with the work.

'Thank you. I was so disappointed when it was painted over, Love it,' one resident responded.

Another said: 'Amazing, looks fantastic and back where she belongs. Thankyou Murwalls.'

The original artwork was commissioned by Three Counties presenter Justin Dealey who, along with local residents, wanted a permanent celebration for the MK born Lioness.

The news of the restoration comes as the Lionesses kickstart their World Cup efforts begin, this weekend, England take on Haiti. Unfortunately, Leah Williamson is out following a 'devastating' injury.
