Milton Keynes residents tell their stories in new film to mark birthday of Fishermead estate

Young and old Fishermead residents have been working together to create a new film about their estate.

Produced by The Living Archive, the film tells their stories of landing in Fishermead, being welcomed and building a diverse and strong community.

The film is part of Fishermead’s celebration of its 50th birthday this Sunday 2nd July.

Hundreds of residents and visitors will be watching the film as it is screened throughout the afternoon at the Fishermead Mosque.

The film is also a celebration of 35 years since an alien, Zarina, crash landed one night with a huge bang outside the first school.

According to the residents speaking in the film, who also ‘landed’ in Fishermead, theirs is a community of pleasant surprises and is getting cleaner, greener, safer and stronger every day.

This Sunday, a carnival will be taking place, residents are invited to gather at the Pirate Park from 12pm to 6pm, to celebrate 50 years since the first building on Fishermead.

“Let me tell you about the place I live, so much to do, so much to give,” the children of Jubilee Wood Primary School will sing in a song written especially for the event. “You don’t know where it’s gonna lead when you start a party in Fishermead!”

A schedule of music, traditional dances, choirs and break-dancing will keep everyone entertained.

There will be food stalls selling ethnic food, reflecting the diverse mix of people living in Fishermead.
