Residents to come together and celebrate birthday of Milton Keynes estate with carnival

Residents are coming together to organise a carnival, celebrating 50 years since the first building on Fishermead.

On Sunday 2nd July, old and new residents are invited to gather at the Pirate Park from 12pm to 6pm, to celebrate 50 years since the first building on Fishermead.

“Let me tell you about the place I live, so much to do, so much to give,” the children of Jubilee Wood Primary School will sing in a song written especially for the event. “You don’t know where it’s gonna lead when you start a party in Fishermead!”

A schedule of music, traditional dances, choirs and break-dancing will keep everyone entertained.

There will be food stalls selling ethnic food, reflecting the diverse mix of people living in Fishermead.

Ophelia Cole from Action Speaks, a community charity based in Fishermead said, “Our residents have been working hard preparing for the celebration on the 2nd of July.  We have been making bunting from material supplied by the people of Fishermead.  We are just praying for good weather for the day!”

Maria Affa from MGB Community Service, also based on Fishermead, said, 'We are looking forward to welcoming all the people from Milton Keynes on the 2nd of July to come and celebrate our 50th Birthday!"

“We look forward to welcoming the local councillors, local MP, the MK Mayor and the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire who have all agreed to attend to support the celebration.”

Building work on the Fishermead Estate began in 1973 when many of the three-storey townhouses were built.

The estate is now home to over a thousand people from many parts of the world.

The birthday event aims to show the diversity of the Fishermead community and bring everyone together in celebration.
