Milton Keynes MP talks cost of living crisis, NHS and local issues with MKFM

Iain Stewart, MP Milton Keynes South, talks to MKFM about the cost of living and local issues that matter to you.

On Wednesday evening (10/8), tune into MKFM to hear Iain Stewart MP discuss local issues, the cost of living crisis, the NHS, protecting local green spaces, Levelling Up and more.

The Conservative MP was first elected as Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes South in May 2010.

Data published by the Progressive Alliance last month suggests over 17,000 households in the city are ‘seriously struggling’ with their finances.

Tomorrow, we speak to the local MP for Milton Keynes South about the cost of living crisis.

"I would point to the significant package of support we've already put together," the MP says when asked what support was in place to help Milton Keynes residents.

"Some of which [support] has only just started coming through, just a couple of weeks ago, people on Universal Credit and other benefits received the first of two payments of £325, the second will be paid in the autumn - also starting in the autumn will be the monthly deductions from energy bills up to £400, there's the changes to the national insurance threshold, which for many workers in Milton Keynes, will be a £300 a year benefit.

"There's been the money off fuel duty, the reduction in council tax, which I noticed they claimed credit for, but all they were doing was administering the payment that the government gave them, a whole range of support." Iain Stewart told MKFM.

"In the winter, there'll be a doubling for pensioners on their winter fuel allowance, so there is a lot coming through already. What we have also said that we will do is keep a very close eye on the situation and if further help is required, that will be given."

MKFM will also ask the important questions about GP waiting times, the number of dentists taking on new NHS patients, protecting local green spaces such as Kingsmead Green and the recent bid for Levelling Up funding, which will go towards MK:U and public transport.

Following last week's exclusive crime series, the MP will also discuss local initiatives, prevention and operations taking place to tackle serious crime in the city.

Listen on Wednesday night (10/8), from 7pm on 95.0/102.1/106.3FM, DAB Digital Radio, online, on your mobile or smart speaker to hear the full interview with Iain Stewart MP.
