Andrew Geary becomes leader of MK Council Conservatives Group

Cllr Andrew Geary has been announced as the new leader of the Conservative group on Milton Keynes Council, following the resignation of Cllr Edith Bald.

In a post on his Facebook page, Cllr Geary said he felt "honoured, privileged and humbled" to have been selected for the role, and said he was looking forward to the new challenge.

Geary has been a local councillor since 2002, originally representing the Hanslope Park ward before being selected for the new ward of Newport Pagnell North and Hanslope from 2014.

He was also the leader of Milton Keynes Council from 2011 until 2014, when the Conservatives lost control of the council to Labour.

Cllr Edith Bald announced her resignation from the post last month, saying she wanted to focus her time on being the ward councillor for Tattenhoe.

Meanwhile, Cllr Alex Walker has been selected as the Deputy Leader for the group. He has been a councillor for the Stantonbury ward since 2015.

Milton Keynes Council is currently run by a Labour administration who have 22 seats, with the Conservatives forming the official opposition with the same number of seats. The Liberal Democrats are also represented with 13 seats.
