99-year-old local hero walking for the NHS raises over £100,000 and counting

Tom Moore, from Marston Moretaine, has raised over £100,000 for the NHS in a matter of days, and the total keeps on growing.

He has set himself a challenge to walk 100 laps of his 25-metre long garden before the 30th April, his 100th birthday.

The WW2 veteran initially set a fundraising target of £1,000. Now, in a matter of days, he has raised over £100,000, with the total going up in the thousands by the minute.

At the time of publication (11:50 on 11/4), over £114,000 had been raised by thousands of supporters.

Every penny donated will go to NHS Charities Together to support healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Tom Moore has commended the NHS for the "incredible" service that he has received in the past, having been treated for a broken hip and skin cancer.

He now wants to give back to those working "so hard", who are "so tired" and are "really doing so well" during the current climate.
