Willen Hospice in Milton Keynes celebrates staff and volunteers

Nurses, gardeners, kitchen assistants, receptionists and therapists are among the staff and volunteers at Willen Hospice being celebrated during national Hospice Care Week (9–15 October).

Through this year’s theme for the annual awareness event – ‘We are hospice care’ – the Hospice aims to showcase not only the incredible work its staff and volunteers do to ensure as many people as possible benefit from the very best end-of-life care, but also the rewarding careers and volunteering opportunities on offer.

This week staff and volunteers from across the Hospice will be taking to social media to explain how their role contributes to making sure patients in the local community continue to have free access to compassionate, specialist end-of-life care.

More than 600 patients were cared for at the Hospice last year, and a further 1,500 patients were supported in their own homes.

JenniJenni manages the Hospice’s Therapeutic and Wellbeing team. She says, “By offering patients, carers and families the tools and support to deal with a life-limiting condition, my team can help them achieve a better quality of life.”

Head Gardener Tom was asked to take over when his predecessor, a close friend, was diagnosed with leukaemia and wanted to pass the job on to someone he trusted. “I love my job and the Hospice is a great thing to be a part of,” says Tom. “I’m deeply proud of the staff and volunteers around the Hospice who make this place work.”
