Thousands of people send well wishes to local hero Captain Tom who is in hospital with COVID-19

Supporters have been sending their best wishes to national treasure Captain Tom following the news he was admitted to hospital with COVID-19.

Captain Sir Tom Moore, who lives just down the road in Marston Moretaine, was admitted to Bedford Hospital with pneumonia yesterday (31/1).

The 100-year-old stole the hearts of the nation during the first lockdown when he raised £33m for the NHS by walking laps of his garden.

Tom's daughter Hannah revealed that the WW2 veteran had been taken to hospital for "help with his breathing" and was not in intensive care.

Since the shock news, thousands of people have been sending their thoughts and prayers and wishing him a speedy recovery.

This includes Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who tweeted: "My thoughts are very much with @CaptainTomMoore and his family. You’ve inspired the whole nation, and I know we are all wishing you a full recovery."

Sir Keir Starmer, Labour Leader, added: "The whole nation hopes you get well soon @captaintommoore. You've been an inspiration to us all throughout this crisis."

Michael Ball, who recorded a charity single with Sir Captain Tom, also shared a message. He said: "Love and prayers for @captaintommoore and his lovely family as he battles this b*****d of a virus. Stay strong Sir. We are all here for you."

It has been reported that Captain Sir Tom was unable to receive the COVID-19 vaccine because he was being treated for pneumonia.

The Vaccine Minister, Nadhim Zahawi, has said he is "praying" for Captain Sir Tom.
