The countdown to MK museum’s new HERstory in Objects Exhibition begins

Milton Keynes Museum’s HERstory in objects exhibition is getting ready to open its doors on the 22 March 2019.

This fascinating and thought-provoking exhibition will tell the story of local women’s lives, experiences, and history through an array of loaned and donated objects.

Following an appeal to girls and women in the area to suggest objects that have meaning for them, the exhibition features around 100 loaned items. Alongside them are objects from the Museum’s own historic collection, as well as items made specially to reflect some of the themes – for instance the notorious scold’s bridle used to silence outspoken women for.

HERstory in Objects will touch upon various aspects of the female experience, from their role in public life, through exploring their bodies and health, to women’s liberation and so much more.

The exhibition has been supported by Milton Keynes Community Foundation and Milton Keynes Council, and takes place in one the of two new galleries created as part of a £7.2 million expansion project at the Museum.

Once it opens the Museum will continue to take suggestions and stories for inclusion to ensure it continues to change and develop over its five-month run.

Keep an eye on the Museum’s website and social media for the announcement of the opening date. You can submit by email: herstory@mkmuseum.org.uk , or via a message or comment on the Museum’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/mkmuseum/ or on Twitter @mkmuseum. Use the hashtag #HERstoryMK.
