'Positive step' for future of Milton Keynes dinosaur as town council launches community consultation

A community consultation is being launched over the future maintenance of a much-loved dinosaur statue in Milton Keynes.

The Leon dinosaur is seen as an iconic feature in the Bletchley area of Milton Keynes and recently, residents have been taking to social media with frustration over its 'poor condition'.

The dinosaur was built by artist Bill Billings with students from Leon School.

Following complaints from residents in the Lakes Estate area, Bletchley and Fenny Town Council has responded that they are launching a consultation, which they say is a 'positive step' forward.

"This community asset is now in poor condition and was never intended to be a long-lasting public art installation. The Town Council has previously advised in good faith that the dinosaur was the property of Milton Keynes City Council," the Town Council explained.

"However, recent oral information has suggested that the Town Council took over the responsibility of the dinosaur when it was moved to its present location from Leon School.

"Following recent developments, the Town Council is now working with the City Council on a community consultation. This will be a positive step forward to ensure the maintenance and future of the Leon dinosaur."
