Police to provide 'constant presence' as world leaders head to Milton Keynes for AI Safety Summit

Thames Valley Police says it has a substantial number of security measures in place to keep the delegates at the summit and the local community safe.

The summit will be the world's first and is being hosted by the government at the Bletchley Park on 1st and 2nd November.

The event will bring together world leaders, leading tech companies and researchers to agree safety measures to evaluate and monitor the most significant risks from AI.

Due to it being such a major event, Thames Valley Police say a 'comprehensive security operation' is underway and will continue to grow as the event dates approach.

Residents will see temporary barriers being installed on footpaths and road in the vicinity of Bletchley Park.

Security fencing will also start to appear in the area as part of the measures being taken to ensure the safety of the summit and the local community.

Thames Valley Police says its neighbourhood teams will be providing a constant presence in local communities, providing support advice and reassurance.

Throughout the course of the week, alongside our neighbourhood teams, there will also be ‘Project Servator’ officers in the area, made up of a range of police officers and staff.

These officers are highly trained to spot tell-tale signs that someone may be carrying out information gathering that may help them plan or prepare to commit a crime.

Local Policing Area Commander for Milton Keynes, Superintendent Emma Baillie, said: “My top priority is to ensure the safety of the local community and businesses and whilst I fully appreciate that the coming days will see some disruption to day-to-day life in Bletchley, together with our partners, we are ensuring that this is kept to a minimum.

“I know that our neighbourhood teams have already been speaking with residents in recent weeks, listening to their concerns and offering reassurance.

“As is natural, we rely on our community to help us. Bletchley has a strong community, and I would ask anybody who sees anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, to please report this to us.

“You can do so either by talking to any of our officers out and about, or by reporting this via our website or by calling 101.

“The measures that we have put in place are designed to ensure day-to-day policing of Bletchley and the wider Milton Keynes area is not impacted by the operation that we have in place.

“If you need police, you can contact us via the usual methods of contacting the force via its website or by calling 101.

“If a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger, you should always call 999 and we will be there to help you.”
