Police ask locals to report any 'smell of drugs' around Milton Keynes to help them tackle drug lines

The Commander for the Milton Keynes local policing area told MKFM that recently, the police have been carrying out drug warrants and some of them have been based on the smell.

The Commander for the Milton Keynes local policing area, Marc Tarbit, said: "One of the ways we look at drugs is that we look to identify and map drug lines. There are some drug lines that operate in Milton Keynes, there are also some county drug lines which is a national problem.

"Having people dealing drugs within urban and rural areas isn't unique to Milton Keynes. County drug lines are something that are seen nationally and there are national plans in place to tackle this.

"At a local level, we need to understand who do we think is dealing drugs, where are they doing that and then work out what kind of interventions do we, as the police, need to put in place to combat that"

TVP use a range of tactics to combat drug dealing such as:

    - Stop and search, the order known as Section 60 gives Thames Valley Police the ability to stop and search any individual.

    - Warrants, a document issued by a legal or government official which can authorize the police to search premises.

    - Covert tactics, carried out in a manner calculated to ensure that the persons subject to such activity.

Tarbit said: "Generally we have become quite good at using a range of tactics and we will draw on the capabilities of Thames Valley Police as a whole

"If i'm tackling drug lines that are using violence and those are the ones we prioritise to look at, we can draw on skills and expertise of Thames Valley Police as a whole and not just have to rely on resources we have here.

"The more people that tell us, the better the insight into local issues we have. The reality is, over the last few weeks, we have done a couple of warrants and some of them have been based on the smell."

You can report via 101 or the TVP online system.

If you do not feel comfortable speaking to the police, you can report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
