Around one in ten people in Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire have had the vaccine

Just over one in ten people in Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire have had the vaccine, new figures show.

Data released today (11/2) by the NHS indicates that 152,000 total doses have been administered in the local area (Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire). There are roughly one million people in said area, meaning that around 15% of the local population has had the vaccine.

32,000 people were vaccinated in local hospitals, GP surgeries, and vaccination centres in the past week alone.

It is expected to ramp up to 52,000 jabs per week soon as the Mayor of Bedford previously revealed that there is the "capacity" to do so.

So far, 88% of people over the age of 80 in Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire have had the first dose.

Data suggests that 95% of 75 to 79-year-olds have had their first dose, and that 75% of 70 to 74-year olds have had it.

This week's figures show that around 8% of those under the age of 70 (from 16 to 69) have had their jab.

It has been revealed that vaccines cut infection rates after the first jab by up to two-thirds, according to a British study.

Early results of the vast UK study on the impact of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine rollout suggests that the level of protection was about 60% to 65%.

The results applied to vaccine recipients of all ages, and protection began after two weeks.
