One coronavirus related death reported in Milton Keynes

Sadly, one death has been reported in Milton Keynes today (23/12).

Today's data tells us that unfortunately, another coronavirus related death has been recorded in Milton Keynes Hospital.

This sad news takes the COVID-19 death toll in Milton Keynes to 522 since the start of the pandemic.

As of Tuesday 21st December, there are 28 patients being cared for in MK Hospital, with one patient being treated on a ventilator.

The latest data, released by the government weekly, includes people admitted to MK Hospital who tested positive for COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to their hospital admission and those who tested positive in hospital after admission.

This news comes as an early analysis has shown that people are 50 to 70% less likely to be admitted to hospital after becoming infected with Omicron rather than Delta.

However, this variant is still less common in those aged over 60, who are more likely to develop severe disease, so the results are largely based on people under the age of 40, who currently have the highest case rates of Omicron.

The  and the UKHSA says further analysis will be needed in the coming weeks.

496 people also tested positive in Milton Keynes today, taking the total of cases in the borough since the beginning of the pandemic to 51,038.

All coronavirus data is provided by the government and NHS, no further information is provided on age, gender or vaccination status.
