Vintage Stony, the vintage car and motorcycle gathering returns this New Year’s Day.
The annual event is a favourite with motoring fans who flock to Stony Stratford to check out the fine examples parked up for perusal.
And you never know what you might find - as Bradley Perkins discovered last summer when he visited the sister event, Classic Stony.
“I was sitting with my friend John and his Morris Minor Traveller when a gentleman came up to us and asked John if he knew anyone who was looking for a Traveller. He explained he had owned a 1959 Morris Minor Traveller for more than 20 years, and had to move it on as he was giving up his lockup.”
Bradley and John checked out the car and Bradley decided he had to rescue the once marvellous motor: “After seeing the car lavishing in the barn looking very sorry for itself. I knew I had to save it,” he said, “A couple weeks later I came back with some friends and collected it.”
Moving it to its new base proved a little challenging, but the car is now safe and awaiting restoration.
It also has a name: “It is called Barney, named from Flintstones as it has no floor!”
Once back to his former gleaming condition, the hope is that Barney will join the other retro cars at a future Classic Stony event.
> Vintage Stony will run tomorrow (January 1) from 9.30am-2pm. Entry is free for spectators, with a suggested donation of £5 for those displaying their vehicles. Money generated goes to Willen Hospice.
