Minister for Employment discusses support for ex-offenders at Milton Keynes distribution centre

The Minister for Employment made a visit to Magna Park, Milton Keynes, to see how the John Lewis is supporting ex-offenders into work.

The Minister for Employment, Guy Opperman MP, visited John Lewis's Magna Park distribution centre in Milton Keynes yesterday (23/10), to see how the company is supporting people, including ex-offenders, on their journey to work.

The Minister also met with representatives of charity Tempus Novo who have been working closely with John Lewis for the past three years to provide ex-offenders with work opportunities as part of their rehabilitation.

The site employs six former offenders who have been supported into work through John Lewis’s partnership with Tempus Novo.

The Minister met a former offender who has been a John Lewis Partner for 12 months.

With support from John Lewis, he now mentors other ex-offenders and promotes the benefits of work as an important part of their rehabilitation.

Minister for Employment, Guy Opperman MP, said: “We want to support ex-offenders into work and Tempus Novo are a great at making this happen. My thanks to John Lewis;”

“I encourage more organisations to follow suit and offer people, irrespective of background, the opportunity of a brighter future through work.”

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) works closely with John Lewis and other employers to fill vacancies and match jobseekers with available roles across the country.

With John Lewis, this includes an extensive school work experience programme promoted by DWP School Advisers from local jobcentres who discuss work experience and apprenticeship opportunities with those aged 12-18.
