Milton Keynes University Hospital Emergency Department under pressure following 'challenging weekend'

Milton Keynes University Hospital is facing a high number of patients following a 'challenging weekend' the CEO has said.

The CEO of Milton Keynes University Hospital is urging residents to only attend the Emergency Department if in need of 'emergency care' as the hospital currently faces a high number of patients needing admission.

Joe Harrison has taken to social media to state that the hospital saw a 'very busy' day yesterday (30/10) and a challenging weekend and that staff are working hard to 'maintain' planned care.

In a statement on X, formally Twitter, CEO Joe Harrison wrote: "It is extremely busy at Milton Keynes University this morning, following a very busy day yesterday & a challenging weekend. Our Emergency Department is particularly pressured as we work to find beds for a high number of patients needing admission.

"We are working very hard to maintain safety across the hospital & to minimise waiting times - although patients in ED are waiting longer than we would like & that they should. Please only attend ED if you need emergency care. We are working hard to maintain elective (planned) care so please attend unless we contact you

"I would like to thank patients for their patience & understanding & apologise to them for longer waiting times in our very busy ED. If you need to raise concerns you contact me joe.harrison@mkuh.nhs.uk

"And I would like to sincerely thank our staff who work incredibly hard day & night to provide care to the hundreds of patients who rely on us every day - your steadfast effort is seen, valued & appreciated so very much, thank you."
