Milton Keynes Police Officer who was killed in car accident was 'travelling home from duty'

    The Chair of the Thames Valley Police Federation has confirmed that the Milton Keynes Police Officer who was killed on Boxing Day morning was driving home from duty.

    PC Daniel Clayton-Drabble, aged 24, was off-duty at the time of collision and died at the scene of single-vehicle road traffic incident on an unclassified road between the A5 and Whittlebury near Towcester in Northamptonshire at around 7.40am on Boxing Day.

    Craig O'Leary, Chair of Thames Valley Police Federation, tweeted: "I’m here at Thames Valley Police Milton Keynes working with our Fed Reps and Thames Valley Police Welfare Department providing whatever support is required to my colleagues following the tragic death yesterday of PC 931 Daniel Clayton-Drabble, travelling home from duty."

    Northamptonshire Police have now confirmed that Mr Clayton-Drabble was the only person in the blue BMW 320 Sport car when it left the road in collision with a tree.

    They are are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident to call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.

    Meanwhile, hundreds of tributes have been paid to the officer on social media.

    Francis Habgood, Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, tweeted: "Devastating news for his family, friends and colleagues. The fact that members of the public who have come into contact with Dan have also tweeted says volumes about him. He will be sadly missed. RIP."

    Another member of the public tweeted to say: "He attended an assault towards me at the beginning of this month and sat in Hospital with me all night. This man was one of the best police officers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I'm extremely upset to learn what has happened to him. RIP and thoughts are with his family."
