Milton Keynes Parish Councillor quits Labour party

A local parish councillor has announced she is resigning from the local Labour Party

A local parish councillor has today released a statement saying that she is resigning from the Labour Party.

Dr Shery Delfani, parish councillor for West Bletchley, took to X - formally Twitter - to make her announcement.

In a statement on social media, Shery Delfani said: "This is an extremely sad day for me today, but after very long considerable thought and with a very heavy heart I am officially resigning from the Labour Party as from today.

"I started to get involved in local politics almost ten years ago. I have always been motivated to serve residents and help develop communities. As a single mother, skilled and from an ethnic minority background, I am proud to have always stood on my values of equality, justice, community, and diversity.

"I thought and hoped politics would be used to do better, with more empathy and more unity and a dedication to always doing what is right rather than pursuing self-interest.

"Over the past three years I have discovered just how far from the truth that is in the Milton Keynes Labour Party.

"I have suffered persistent and systematic discrimination, bullying and unfair treatment. Today, I am certain that I do not feel able to continue being a part of a toxic local party and that is marred by a lack of compassion and suffers from a culture of incompetence locally and nationally.

"I have made formal complaints with the hope that my voice can be heard but nothing has changed.

"Therefore, I have taken the decision to leave the Labour Party with immediate effect. This will allow me to use my skills and passion to serve the community in a better, more positive environment."

A spokesperson for Labour in the South East region, including Milton Keynes, told MKFM that they have no comment.
