Milton Keynes Mayor to stop publishing coronavirus figures on his social media until 'clarity' is given

The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Andrew Geary, has said he will stop publishing coronavirus figures on his social media until 'clarity' is given.

Residents have been given regular updates by the Mayor on the latest numbers of positive cases and deaths in Milton Keynes throughout the pandemic - which were taken from the publicly available government data.

But, as reported by MKFM earlier and first covered in the FT, it appears that tests which are taken in the drive-through centre in Milton Keynes were not being included in the local daily case numbers.

Instead, only the number of positive cases recorded in so-called 'Pillar 1' environments - tests which have been completed in NHS or Public Health England environments (primarily Milton Keynes Hospital) - were included.

Tweeting the news, Cllr Geary said: "I'm aware there has been discussion on the reporting of Covid-19 cases. We can only give published figures and know there is a delay in the reporting of cases and the publication of those figures."

"We won’t be publishing any more testing figures until such times as we have clarity."

MKFM is working hard to analyse and publish the new 'Pillar 2' data for Milton Keynes, which includes drive-through and home tests and was previously unavailable.

The news follows a call from Council Leader Peter Marland for the government to 'get a grip' on coronavirus data.
