Milton Keynes Lightning and City Apartments agree sponsorship deal

The Milton Keynes Lightning have secured an agreement with local agency City Apartments that will see accommodation provided for three of the team’s players at a significant discount.

City Apartments is one of the region’s leading serviced apartment companies, founded by local business entrepreneur Andy Keech in 2003.

The company offers the perfect combination of fresh, comfortable and convenient serviced apartment living. From one night to one year, they welcome guests 365 days a year.

City Apartments believe amazing experiences in our stunning accommodation should be accessible to all, and they pride themselves on a flexible approach and ease of booking.

In areas such as Milton Keynes where hotel accommodation can become fully booked very quickly or priced at a premium due to its central location, City Apartments offer visitors a home away from home, with many home comforts not available at hotels.

Three of the new Lightning roster will be housed in properties managed by City Apartments, at a discount on normal rates.

For supporters of teams who travel to play the Lightning in Milton Keynes, discounted rates will be available on their serviced apartments, all within walking distance of the rink.

In return, the City Apartments branding will be displayed prominently on a rink-side barrier board at the Planet Ice Arena in front of the away team’s bench, as well as on the players’ jerseys.

The company also intends to become the corporate sponsor of one Lightning player, meaning the company’s name will be announced whenever that player takes to the ice or is involved in a goal or penalty.

Commenting on the agreement, Lightning’s Commercial Manager Sarah Jane Smyth said: “We’re delighted to have reached this agreement with City Apartments.”

“Life in the Elite League means that with all of our players coming from some distance away, being able to manage the costs of accommodation is hugely significant.”

“This arrangement means living arrangements for three of our team will be taken care of, and we know they’ll be in fantastic apartments, close to the rink for training and matches.

She concluded: “We hope this will be the start of a long and mutually beneficial partnership!”

Andy Keech, Managing Director of City Apartments, commented: “We are dedicated to building relationships with the local community and businesses, which is why we are excited to sponsor Milton Keynes’s cherished ice hockey team, the MK Lightning.”

“All of us at City Apartments are thrilled to support Milton Keynes’ only elite sports team. Milton Keynes is a great city and MK Lightning are representing it on a national level.”

He concluded: "We look forward to seeing them achieve great success and take pride in knowing we can support the team to achieve it!”
