Milton Keynes City Council is inviting residents to a community safety day on Friday (July 26) to learn about water safety and upgrades made to the Blue Lagoon nature reserve in Bletchley.
Colleagues from Thames Valley Police, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council will join the city council between 12:30pm-3:30pm to answer questions and explain new safety measures in place at the Blue Lagoon.
Recent improvements include new CCTV cameras, litter bins and regular security patrols. Following reports of anti-social behaviour at the Blue Lagoon, MK City Council worked with partners to make the upgrades to tackle the issues and create a more welcoming environment for visitors.
The event will also celebrate the official opening of the new walking and cycling route connecting Newton Leys to the Blue Lagoon as part of the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Deal programme. As part of the programme, two additional walking and cycling routes will be provided to the Blue Lagoon from the Lakes Estate and a new link running from north to south alongside the nature reserve.
Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Councillor Amber McQuillan, said, "This is a great opportunity for people to visit the Blue Lagoon to ask questions and raise issues, and for us to hear what’s important to the local community. We understand there’s been concerns about anti-social behaviour at the Blue Lagoon which is why we’ve installed new CCTV, litter bins and introduced security patrols in the area."
“It’s also fantastic to open the new redway link which will provide better access for people wishing to visit the nature reserve. We’ll continue to work with partners and the community to create a welcoming, vibrant and safe environment for everyone to enjoy. I’d strongly encourage people to come along", Cllr McQuillan concluded.
