Milton Keynes dinosaur statue to be removed to make way for redevelopment

The Lakes Estate dinosaur is set to be removed as the city council makes way for redevelopment of the area.

In a post on social media by Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, it has been announced that a much-loved dinosaur statue will be removed.

The dinosaur, which was created as part of a community art project at Sir Herbert Leon School, is set to be removed to make way for the redevelopment of the Lakes Estate area.

Warren Park, also known as Dinosaur Park, is needed for Milton Keynes City Council regeneration works next year.

Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council has said that the cost of restoring and removing the statue has proved "prohibitive".

Residents in Milton Keynes had previously been campaigning to save the statue, with a consultation launched back in April.

An event to celebrate the dinosaur will be held by The Locals of the Lakes Residents Association on 29th December from 12pm, with local residents invited to attend and say goodbye to the statue.

"Don’t miss the opportunity on this or other days over the Christmas holiday to take some pictures with the dinosaur before it goes and share these on socials," Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council says.

"This is the last chance to say goodbye in person but Milton Keynes City Council has commissioned a 3D scan of the statue and this will be available for use in future artwork or community projects when the time comes."
