Milton Keynes Council recorded 857 incidents of graffiti last year

It has been revealed that Milton Keynes Council recorded 857 incidents of graffiti last year.

This comes as data by Structural Repairs reveals that six-figure sums were spent on graffiti removals by local authorities across the UK.

It has been reported that Milton Keynes Council had the 19th highest expenditure in 2019 removing graffiti out of the 200 local authorities that provided data for the study.

Underpasses appear to be graffiti hotspots in the city with a brand new underpass, below the V4 Watling Street, previously being vandalised just 24 hours after the official opening ceremony

MKFM approached Milton Keynes Council to comment on the newly revealed data. A spokesperson said: "We are disappointed with crimes like these and with it, it brings additional expenses to the Council. Our figures show we are down on graffiti crime from this time last year.

"We work with our contractors to remove graffiti on our owned assets, and have a dedicated crew to tackle such crimes. We also have in place an emergency removal service for cases such as obscene graffiti and it’s usually removed within 24 hours. If graffiti is on private land people need to contact the land owner."

In other news, popular local music venue MK11 has also been vandalised during a time where the music industry is "at its knees".

Milton Keynes Council has urged residents to report vandalism to the council online or to the police. They concluded: "Help us to make MK a cleaner, greener and safer place."
