Independent music venue in Milton Keynes vandalised when industry is 'on its knees'

An independent music venue has taken to social media to share the news that the building has been vandalised.

This comes during a time when the music industry has been dramatically impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent restrictions.

UK Music states that the pandemic has “wiped out at least £900 million of the £1.1 billion that live music was expected to contribute to the UK economy in 2020.”

And now music venues across the country are struggling to survive. The Government is being called on to give more support to the industry that sees over three quarters (72%) of workers being self-employed.

Milton Keynes is home to various independent music venues, including MK11 and Unit Nine, which haven't been able to trade since lockdown began in March.

And staff at MK11, which is based in Kiln Farm, arrived on site today to discover that somebody had vandalised the exterior of the building.
"Our industry is on its knees and we come in to find this," they said on social media. "F*** you. Anyone recognise this s*** bags tag, let us knows so we can inform the police."

People have since been showing their support for the venue saying that they will assist the team in clearing it up. Others have suggested the possibility of creating a GoFundMe page to raise funds to allow the venue to have a local graffiti artist cover it up.
