A local cat charity has issued an update after 5 kittens were found dumped in an IKEA bag in Milton Keynes.

For the second time this month, more kittens were found dumped in the Milton Keynes area.

Late on Monday night, Milton Keynes and District Cats Protection volunteers were called after a local dog walker spotted kittens dumped on the side of a road.

When volunteers arrived, five kittens were found inside an IKEA bag, along with a very frightened mum cat hiding in bushes nearby.

The mum cat ran off and volunteers have been trying to reunite them.

The charity has now issued an update to MKFM, stating that the kittens have now been reunited with their mum and are doing 'well' in the charity's care.

"We have now successfully caught mum and reunited her with the kittens. Our lost and found volunteers worked non-stop to safely catch mum and bring her into our care," a spokesperson for Milton Keynes and District Cats Protection told MKFM.

"They were all found on Buckingham Road, Bletchley by a local dog walker late on Monday night, who reached out to us and our Lost and Found volunteers responded quickly to get to the area.

"The kittens are estimated to be between 4-5 weeks old and are doing well in our care. Mum cat is still very frightened, so we are giving her lots of space for the time being whilst she adjusts so unfortunately, we have not been able to get any photos of her to share."

The charity are urging those struggling to care for pets to reach out before going to 'such extremes'.

Just last week, a local dog was hailed 'local hero' after sniffing out seven kittens who were dumped on bin day in the city.

Thankfully, all seven kittens were found safe and taken to the vets.

"We are hearing regular reports of things like this happening across many different areas and we are begging people to reach out to us before going to such extremes," they said.

"We will do all we can to support."

The charity is also appealing for volunteers who would like to join its committed team, who helps to keep the charity doing the work it does.
