Staff at a local pub are being praised for their efforts in cleaning up a local play area after an illegal encampment was moved on.

Local police officers attended an illegal encampment at Kingfisher Play Area in Newport Pagnell to enforce a Section 60C to the residents.

At around 7pm last night (1/8), travellers were moved on from the local area. It comes after travellers on Elthorne Way were given until the end of day to leave the site by police officers.

Newport Pagnell residents have been taking to social media to thank the officers and the team working at the Kingfisher pub for helping to tidy up the play area.

"Thank you for clearing up the children's playground and the field," one wrote on Facebook.

"Good job Kingfisher guys!," another said.

Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North said: "I’ve been liaising with the police and I’m extremely grateful to the force for responding so quickly using the powers they have under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act."

The news follows several stories on illegal encampments in the city, with travellers currently located in a number of places including Chaffron Way, Tattenhoe, V1 Snelshall Street, Snelshall West and Katrine Place, Bletchley.

James Lancaster, Labour councillor for the Tattenhoe Ward, responded to messages from residents stating that MKCC Officers from the Environmental Team visited an encampment on Powis Lane last Wednesday, but due to 2 vehicles being under repair, they were unable to tow.

Milton Keynes City Council states that officers are following the legal eviction process and are working with landowners and other agencies to resolve this issue as 'quickly as they can.'

Earlier this summer, a Milton Keynes supermarket was forced to close after an encampment was set up on its car park.
