There has been a 'gradual reduction' in the number of COVID-positive patients at Milton Keynes Hospital

The number of COVID-positive patients at Milton Keynes University Hospital is reducing, MKFM can reveal.

Professor Joe Harrison, the CEO of Milton Keynes Hospital, spoke to MKFM for the News Special broadcast which will air on 106.3FM at 7pm tonight (10/2).

During the interview, he said there has been a "gradual reduction" in the number of positive cases at the hospital so far this month.

This is in line with the number of positive cases across the city, and nationwide, declining.

There were 57 positive cases announced in Milton Keynes on Tuesday (9/2) which is far lower compared to the 400-plus daily cases the city saw in December.

In the last month of 2020, Professor Harrison revealed the number of COVID-positive patients had doubled compared to the first peak of the virus.

But on a more positive note, now the nation is in lockdown, this is no longer the case.

Professor Harrison told MKFM that hospital staff are also seeing a reduction in the number of patients in critical care which is "really positive for Milton Keynes".

He commented: "[We are] just starting to see the number of patients who are COVID-positive in our organisation is going down which is taking a little bit of pressure off so [there is] light at the end of the tunnel, we hope."

It is important to continue following lockdown rules, and hands - face - space, to ensure that this decline continues.

Tune in to MKFM 106.3FM from 7pm to find out more about the current situation at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

You can also listen on DAB, online, and via your smart speaker.

The interview will also be streamed on MKFM's Facebook page.
