Girl Pack trustee running 100k to help fight period poverty in Milton Keynes

A trustee for a local charity is running 100k to help raise vital funds to help fight period poverty.

Girl Pack MK is a local volunteer-led charity which supports everyone’s period, providing emergency period packs and period products to schools and communities across Milton Keynes.

Girl Pack was started by Megan and Paige, two teenagers who noticed that their friends were not able to access period products. They were asked for pads on numerous occasions by friends and decided to do something about it. The period pack was born from this decision and is still the charity's main project to date.

Period packs are now available in schools, community centres, children’s centres, Parish Council offices, Community Larders and fridges, sports clubs, shops, and cafes and distributed by other charities.

Rhian Evans, a Girl Park trustee, is taking on the challenge of running 100k for Girl Pack.

The need for the charity is growing rapidly and this year and Girl Pack have already given out over 4010 period packs, as well as over 2800 packs of sanitary towels and tampons.

Sadly, Girl Pack is now desperately low on funds.

Rhian wrote: "I have set myself a challenge to run 100km (or more!) for Girl Pack in June and July. I have ran 32km so far in my challenge! (22km this week alone!)

"Please follow my journey - I’m a new runner, I’m not built for it and I’m not very fast! But I love girl pack and the people we support!

"We are growing from a tiny charity into something really big in Milton Keynes! There is only a small team of volunteers that coordinates, packs, and delivers our period packs and baskets to over 100 venues in MK.

"We are beginning to worry that we may soon run out of funds! Please help to make sure that doesn’t happen, sponsor me today! Thankyou!"
