Dog saved from abuse by police in Milton Keynes after shopping centre CCTV catches man 'punching' it over 10 times

A man was arrested in Milton Keynes after he was caught on CCTV footage abusing a white and tan Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog.

Yesterday (13th November), officers in Milton Keynes received a report from CCTV operators at a Milton Keynes shopping centre, stating that they could see an assault taking place involving a dog.

The centre:mk CCTV operators said they could see a male on CCTV lift his dog in the air by its collar, drag it for approximately 10 meters and throw it to the ground before punching it over 10 times to the head and face.

Milton Keynes officers, PC 2541 Coates and PC 5814 Da Silva Melo, from the Central Milton Keynes Neighbourhood Policing Team (CMK NHPT), attended and reviewed the CCTV footage.

Officers say the footage was "hard to watch" and showed a "sustained assault" of the animal, a white and tan Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog.

A 42 year old male was arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal contrary to Section 4(1) and Section 32(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 at 12:46pm.

By 17:46, police say he had been interviewed and charged with the offence and remanded to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court this morning 14th November, after a collective effort by the North Neighbourhood Policing Team.

At court the male plead guilty to the offence and was bailed in order for a pre-sentence report to be prepared with the condition - Not to be in possession of any animal.

The male will next be appearing at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court on 07/12/2023.

"Most importantly the dog was seized by Police, taken to the vets and given the kind of care and affection he deserves by the CMK NHPT, along with as many tasty snacks as possible!," a spokesperson said.

"It is safe to say he will be missed by Officers and was a much loved temporary addition to the office. The dog will be cared for in kennels allowing a rehoming process to begin."
