Highways crews were busy removing large icicles from various roads and paths across the city last night (9/2).

This comes as Milton Keynes has been experiencing temperatures below freezing, and a weather warning has been issued.

Gritters have been out on the roads over the past few days, and have too been prioritising the new mass vaccination centre to ensure residents can safely receive their jabs.

Crews also spent time travelling across the city yesterday removing large icicles that had formed underneath bridges, which dangled over redways and roads.

These potentially dangerous icicles had to be disposed of due to the potential risk of falling onto pedestrians and vehicles.

Ringway, the company responsible for maintaining city highways, used a MEWP vehicle to lift the team and allow safe removal of the icicles.

Milton Keynes Council added that the team removed icicles from underneath the railway bridge along Buckingham Road in Bletchley.

A spokesperson for the council said: "These could fall onto the traffic below so it's vital to remove them for safety."

In other news, Thames Valley Police yesterday spotted icicles that had formed on a hedgerow in Milton Keynes.

An officer said: "How beautiful is this work of art created by cars going through puddles and the water splashing up onto the hedgerow and then freezing? Absolutely stunning!! (P.S. please note that I am NOT encouraging drivers to go through puddles to create beautiful artwork)."
