Four properties in Milton Keynes will be on sale by auction on Thursday 2 November.
A detached house in Olney, End of Terrace in Sherrington, a semi-detached house in Olney and a bungalow in Bletchley have been placed for sale, according to the City Council website.
The City Council says that properties can cometimes become 'surplus' and in order to get the best value for market, these are then sold on the open market.
"Details of these sales are sometimes marketed by external partners," a spokesperson says.
"If you are looking for residential properties for sale, you are advised to contact local Estate Agents as it is highly unlikely that the Council will sell 'ready to move in' residential properties through this process."
Residents have been taking to Facebook to respond to the City Council with one asking how there can be surplus houses despite a housing list.
Another said: "2 year wait on social housing and they’re being sold?"
