Cinemas in Milton Keynes to close until further notice

Cineworld and Odeon will be stopping all screenings, including those in Milton Keynes, following the latest Government advice.

Today's (17/3) announcements come a day after Boris Johnson's advice for the public to avoid pubs and theatres.

Odeon has stopped screenings as of today (17/3), and Cineworld will stop screenings as of tomorrow (18/3).

Both cinemas will remain closed until further notice.

"This decision was made in light of the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and recent UK government advice, which the company has been carefully monitoring and following," Cineworld said in a statement.

It was reported that on Monday (16/3), Cineworld's shares dropped to the lowest level yet, decreasing the value of the business by nearly 70%.

Odeon shared the news of its closure online and on social media. The message read: "Following Government guidelines ODEON cinemas are closed until further notice. If you have pre-booked tickets online, those will be refunded automatically."

Residents have been questioning where this leaves staff members and those who hold Unlimited/Limitless cards.

This is the latest closure of local amenities here in Milton Keynes. Yesterday, it was announced that MK Theatre and MK Gallery were to close until further notice. It was also revealed that the MK Marathon has been postponed.

MKFM will keep the community up to date with the latest event postponements, centre closures and local news regarding COVID-19.
