Murder investigation launched after man stabbed in Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed in Milton Keynes.

The force was called by South Central Ambulance Service at 6.47pm yesterday (25/1) to report that a man had been found stabbed in Brooklands Square.

Paramedics tried to save the victim’s life, but tragically the victim, a 48-year-old man from Milton Keynes, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim’s family have been informed.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Alice Broad, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation to discover what happened to the victim and give his loved ones the answers to the questions they will have.

“There is currently a cordon in place in Fen Street and Brooklands Square to allow our officers and staff to carry out enquiries at scene, including vital forensic examinations.

“We are also carrying out house to house enquiries in the area as well as obtaining and reviewing CCTV.

“If anyone has any information or footage from the area of Brooklands Square and Fen Street and hasn’t already spoken to the police, please contact us as soon as possible. You can speak to an officer at the cordon, call 101, or visit our website, quoting the unique reference number for this investigation, which is 1784 of 25 January.

“A 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, both from Milton Keynes, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Meanwhile, a 57-year-old woman from Milton Keynes has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. The 27-year-old woman has been released without further action, meanwhile the man and 57-year-old woman remain in police custody.”

Local Policing Commander for Milton Keynes, Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie said: “As a city, in recent years all of our communities have come together with a great sense of purpose to prevent serious violence and knife crime, which has led to significant reductions in the last few months.

“So I know this murder will be felt deeply in Milton Keynes, but violent offenders will never stop our communities from continuing to work together, shoulder to shoulder, to prevent further tragedies or loss of lives.

“Our neighbourhood officers will be conducting patrols in the area, so if you have any concerns, questions, or information then please stop and speak to them.”

Due to recent contact with the victim, the force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), who will decide whether to carry out an investigation in relation to this specific part of the case.
