1,500 books donated to local charities by Milton Keynes residents at Land of Lights

Visitors to a popular Milton Keynes attraction are being thanked for their generosity after donating approximately 1,500 books to benefit local charities.

Land of Lights, a mile long festival of illuminations being held at Gulliver’s resort until the end of February, held a special weekend where guests were offered discounted tickets in exchange for a book which could then be donated to community organisations and charities across the city.

And the Milton Keynes public did not disappoint as two huge containers of approximately 1,500 books were collected across the two days and will now be donated to a number of organisations including Willen Hospice and KidsOut.

This year, Land of Lights, which runs until 25 February 2024, has brought the theme of classic children’s literature to life with a wide variety of installations on display from popular and much-loved characters and scenes including The Three Little Pigs, Dr Doolittle, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan to name just a few.

Darren Hoy, Land of Lights festival manager, said: “We were staggered by our loyal customers who came in their droves and donated a huge number of quality books that will benefit our local community for years to come.

“As an event, it was really important for us to give something back to the local community and because of the theme of the festival being children’s literature we felt our book bank weekend was the perfect fit. On behalf of the Festival and the wonderful charities and organisations who have benefited, a big thank you to everyone who donated. It really is appreciated by us all.”

Thousands of people from across the country have already explored the festival’s enchanting installations which includes more than 7,000 individual lanterns and hundreds of thousands LED lights. To book or to find out more about Land of Lights visit the website here - landoflights.co.uk.
