11 small businesses shortlisted to win rent-free space in Milton Keynes shopping centre

Following dozens of entries to the small business competition called Hatch, Midsummer Place has created a shortlist of 11 finalists.

Launched in March this year, Hatch invited small local and regional businesses to pitch for free premium retail space in the region’s premier shopping destination, access to marketing, PR and social support. Over 40 entries were received and included local candle makers to children’s clothing.

Now, the shortlist will present their company to a panel of three judges, including General Manager at Midsummer Place, Shelley Peppard, Marketing Manager, Kirsty McGiff and Asset Manager from Ellandi, Tom Ellams, on Monday 6 June.

The finalists include a variety of retailers from Candles, Skincare, Vintage Clothing, Hand Crafted Homeware, Vintage Furniture and more.

“There is an incredible amount of talented people in the region, and we really have an abundance of entrepreneurs amongst us,” said Shelley Peppard.

“The calibre of entries has made making the final shortlist a tough choice, but we would like to congratulate every single person on their fabulous business ideas and wish them great success. We’re looking forward to seeing each of the presentations and to working with the lucky winners to help accelerate their business to a new level.”

Following the presentations, the judges will announce the winners late June.
