Throughout World War Two, Bletchley Park Codebreakers relied heavily on the expertise of radio intercept operators who tirelessly tuned the airwaves for enemy radio signals and transcribed everything they heard. Understanding how to navigate the radio frequency spectrum and the impact of location, weather and propagation was fundamental to their work, ensuring they intercepted as much traffic as possible. Every word was vital for the war effort.

Join experts from the Radio Society of Great Britain’s National Radio Centre, Martyn Baker and Andy Webster as they help you surf the radio spectrum and get to grips with the fundamentals of radio transmission. During this two-hour session, you will discover how radio propagation works and see a practical demonstration of where different radio signals sit in the spectrum. This event is for anyone fascinated by the story of Bletchley Park, the history of radio, or anyone who wants to know more about how modern radio communications operate. No previous radio knowledge or experience required.
