This is what the law says about launching fireworks on New Year's Eve

With New Year's Eve almost upon us, some people will be starting to think about setting off fireworks to see in the New Year.

On a normal day, it’s against the law for anyone to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am in the UK.

However, for New Year's Eve the cut off is extended until 1am, which means you will be able to set them off just after midnight to welcome in 2021.

The law also says that you must not set off or throw fireworks (including sparklers) in the street or other public places.

In addition, 'Category 4 fireworks' can only be used by professionals.

You can check out the full law governing the use of fireworks on the gov.uk website here.
