MKFM REVIEW: Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle at Milton Keynes Theatre

The MKFM team were invited to see Mind Mangler at Milton Keynes Theatre, running until Wednesday 5th June and here is our review…

Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle is a magnificent mind-bending comedy show that can’t be missed.

Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, Mind Mangler is based on a character originally created in Magic Goes Wrong by Penn Jillette, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields & Teller.

The show’s host and leading character is the Mind Mangler himself (also known as Keith). Superbly played out by the engageable and talented Henry Lewis.

His stage presence, interaction with the audience and comic timing was simply brilliant.

An egotistical, useless magician and psychic, pulls the audience in to marvel in his magical magnificence. Undeterred and full of self-confidence he stages an array of crap magic show tricks that have to be seen to believed.

The show is hilarious, leaving the audience choking with laughter and disbelief as the situations and magic tricks become more and more ludicrous.

Audience participation is key to the evening’s entertainment, and the actors interaction with them is superbly executed and cleverly simultaneously live-streamed onto a giant on stage screen.

Another key element to the brilliance of this show, is the obvious plant of an audience member participant (played by the gifted Jonathan Sayer).

Sayer is impressively stupid but very endearing, playing a range of comical roles and popping up in different costumes around the auditorium. The relationship between him and Lewis is magic itself. Their comic timing and sharp sarcastic replies to the audiences involvement is wonderful.

The audience don’t just watch and love this show, they are an integral part of it.

In short, the Mind Mangler is a magnificent comedy show, don’t miss it.
