Is the 'Staycation' a good idea? A Bletchley money expert gives us her views

As families face uncertainty whether they will be able to go on holiday, a money coach gives her expert advice.

With Buckinghamshire offering numerous tourist spots to choose from, the appeal for a UK holiday has never been greater.

When national lockdown measures were lifted last May, there was a surge in bookings for lodges, cottages and Airbnb apartments.

Nikki Ramskill, a part time GP and money coach, told us the benefits of holidaying in the UK, should it be safe to do so.

"I think having regular breaks from work is a good thing to do, especially with the year we’ve all had.

"A staycation might seem disappointing, but think of it this way: you’re helping out business owners who have had a shocking year, especially if you choose smaller, boutique hotels and restaurants, you’re helping to get the UK entrepreneur community back on its feet - even the weather can be amazing in the UK!

"Yes it’s not as “guaranteed” as more exotic locations, but it’s certainly possible - it gives you the opportunity to be a tourist in your own country. How often have you said “I’ll get round to doing/seeing x” that’s right on your doorstep but never do? No language difficulties, no currency exchange issues, less stress!"

With the encouraging rollout of the vaccine and the hope that lockdown measures will be lifted again, there is a chance we could enjoy a great UK holiday!
