All Debenhams stores to close after Boohoo buyout

Milton Keynes already lost its own Debenhams store after it was announced it wouldn't reopen after the December lockdown.

The flagship store in the Intu shopping centre in Milton Keynes was part of 20 stores that didn't reopen after the administrators were unable to agree on terms with their landlord.

The former Debenhams store in Milton Keynes has been taken over by a Next Home and Beauty store.

While the buyout by Boohoo means that Debenhams can continue to trade online, it will mean job losses of up to 12,000 people and the closure of 124 stores.

Milton Keynes' own store closure saw a loss of around 100 employees.

This is not the first time that Boohoo has bought clothing companies online business and not the stores, they also own Oasis, Coast and Karen Millen.

In other news, ASOS are continuing talks to purchase Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT from their administrators.

Similarly to Boohoo, the purchase would not be for the stores, meaning further potential closure in Milton Keynes.
