Milton Keynes Dons boss Russell Martin has revealed that the club are edging closer to making a new signing and hope to have some news on that front by Monday.

The Dons have made 11 transfers so far this off-season, with four loans and and five of them being brand new faces, but have continued hunting for a new top striker after the departure of Rhys Healey to Toulouse this summer.

Martin has regularly been asked about his progress in the transfer window, but hasn't been able to provide much more than the usual updates that the club is continuing its search and hopes to have someone by the end of the window (Friday 16th October).

Today, however, Martin revealed that the club is now at a stage with a target where the player could potentially be locked up over the weekend, with the Dons boss hoping to provide clarity on that situation by Monday.

Speaking at this morning's press conference, Martin explained: "I think we're close to bringing someone in now, which will be good."

"Hopefully we'll have some more on that over the weekend and by Monday."

He added: "I'm really excited about it, about the person we're trying to get in and we're getting closer with, so I'm hopeful we'll have some news for you either later today, tomorrow or Monday."
