Milton Keynes Dons have landed the services of experienced right back Kane Wilson from Championship club Derby County for an undisclosed fee.

The Dons have suffered unfortunate injuries at the full-back positions early this season, leaving head coach Paul Warne desperately needing some reinforcements before the summer window closes Monday, 1st September.

Australian international Gethin Jones joined the Dons this summer from Bolton Wanderers, but he will miss a period of time after picking up a knock against Newport County.

Losing the team's starting right back, the Dons have managed to bring in some serious competition in the form of 25-year-old Englishman Kane Wilson, who has been a regular feature for Derby in the Championship and League One over the last two seasons.

Wilson made 74 appearances in the English second and third tiers with Derby and should go straight into the starting line-up when the Dons play host to Grimsby Town on Saturday, 6th September.

The Birmingham native also brings with him the experience of winning League Two, having lifted the trophy with Forest Green Rovers at the end of the 2021/22 season, an achievement that also saw him named League Two Player of the Year before securing a move to Bristol City that summer.

On joining the Dons, Wilson commented: "I'm really happy, it's been a mad few days! I'm absolutely buzzing!"

"Some of my best attributes are going forward, which the gaffer loves! I just try and excite the fans, to be honest. I love running at players, dribbling, and if I can contribute to clean sheets and creating chances, then hopefully I'll have a good rapport with the fans!"

On working with Warne, he said: "He's one of a kind, really! He makes me laugh! When we spoke on the phone, he was so positive about the club; it was one of those things that was just right for me and my family. I just really wanted to be involved!"

Warne himself commented: "I've worked with Kane before, and he's been amazing for me in both League One and the Championship!

"He's a great player and a brilliant character as well, which is so important for the dressing room.

"He wants to win, and entertain, he's a full-back that bombs on and wants to take players on all the time. He's just really infectious, I think he'll go down a storm!

He concluded: "He would have played a part in the Championship this year, so for him to back what we want to do at MK Dons is massive."

Sporting Director Liam Sweeting added: "We’re absolutely delighted to have signed Kane. He’s a player who made a significant impact in the Championship last season and someone who will add genuine quality and energy to the squad.

"His versatility and athleticism make him a great addition, and from our first conversations, it was clear he wanted to be part of what we’re building here.

"Having previously worked under Paul Warne, Kane arrives with experience of playing in successful teams and that mentality will be invaluable.

He concluded: "His commitment and drive will make him an excellent fit both on and off the pitch."
