Milton Keynes' local election expected to go ahead this year despite pandemic

The local election will go ahead in May 2021 despite the ongoing COVID-19 situation, it has been reported.

These elections were postponed in 2020 as the nation experienced the first peak of the pandemic.

But national press has today (5/2) stated that this year's local elections will go ahead, this time with extra safety measures to make it COVID-secure.

The BBC alleges that £70m will be provided by the Government to make polling stations as safe as possible.

Voters will be asked to bring their own pen or pencil to mark their ballots, and masks will be compulsory.

There will also be social distancing in all venues, alongside screens/dividers, and one-way systems are likely.

Milton Keynes Council's elections are due to take place on 6th May.

The local authority conducts all elections taking place within the area; this year's elections are Police and Crime Commissioner, Borough Council and Parish.

Residents over the age of 18 can vote in the upcoming election, but they must have registered to do so. To find out more information, including on how to vote by post and proxy, please click here.
