Milton Keynes Council announces further delays to rubbish collection

The council previously announced that waste collection in some areas was delayed until Monday (01/02) but residents will now have to wait until their normal collection day.

The council has cited the COVID-19 pandemic and icy road conditions as the main reason for the delays.

On the council’s official website, they gave an explanation behind the reasons for the delays. Their post read: “Last week (25 January 2021) we had to suspend all waste and recycling collections across MK due to the icy weather conditions, to protect our crews, vehicles and other road users.

“As a result, delays in collecting waste and recycling combined with COVID absences have had a knock-on effect.

“We are asking residents to now place their waste and recycling collections on their normal collection day. So, if your collection was due to be picked up on Friday 29 January which was rolled over to Saturday 30 January, it will now be collected on Friday 5 February.

The council then went on to offer an apology to locals as they said: “We are sorry for the delays to collect your waste and recycling.

“We want to be realistic with our residents, we hope people will understand we are doing our best to keep the service running during these difficult times.

“We’re doing everything that we can to continue to provide essential services in these extreme circumstances and we thank you for continuing to support our crews as front-line key workers.

“Please help us by sharing this important information with your friends, family and neighbours and those without access to the internet.”

    “Thank you for your patience.

Many locals were frustrated with this announcement and took to social media to express their concerns with the council. One responded to the council’s post by saying: “This is unacceptable. Why are you not delaying everyone’s collection by a day?

“Our waste is out because you failed to collect it yesterday. I understand the difficulties of weather and Covid but this is poor.”

Another disgruntled resident said: “Why do we have we to wait until next Friday? This is ridiculous!”
