MK Breakers Men’s team were back in action on Saturday evening, welcoming Essex Rebels to Bletchley Leisure Centre and looking to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s loss.
The home team couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game when a steal from Jonas Dieterich led to a Jordan Spencer dunk, but the rest of the first half saw the game go back and forth.
Holding a four-point lead at half-time, Breakers would spark into life after the interval. Feeding off good defence and a relentless effort towards rebounding, they jumped out to a 56-40 lead, with an eye-catching contribution from Dieterich who found a good rhythm to pour in nine points in the third quarter.
Rebels fought back, cutting the deficit to just three points with 1:53 left to play. Jordan Spencer would put the result beyond them however, scoring a layup and knocking down three free throws from three attempts.
The Captain would end the game with a team-high 16 points, but also grabbed 11 rebounds while Dieterich and Xavier Wilson added 13 points each.
“We made it far more difficult than we should,” said Breakers Head Coach Ben Stanley. “You have to credit Essex for the effort and quality they have, but we have to deliver more consistent performances than this.
“At times during the game, we executed our plan the right way and when we did that, we looked good. Now we have to work on sustaining those spells for longer periods and sticking to the gameplan for all forty minutes.”
They will look to do just that next Saturday, travelling north to take on Loughborough Riders. Tip-off is at 18:00 and tickets are available here.
