MK Breakers face Reading Rockets test

Milton Keynes Breakers play hosts to Reading Rockets this weekend as the two sides battle out a replay of the 2024 National Cup Final - Tip-Off is scheduled for 5pm.

The two sides faced off against each other in January of this year as the Breakers made history lifting the National Cup 95-85 over The Rockets. The teams will reunite for another Cup Final in March 2025 as they battle it out to become the KitKing Trophy Winners. The history is already in place, but the future will start this Saturday.

The Breakers enjoyed National Cup success last weekend as they overcame Ipswich Basketball 103-68 at Copleston Sports Centre. It was Adrian Scarborough who led the scoring for the Breakers with 19 points, with Jaguar Jackson following closely behind with 17 points. Kai Walker (16), KJ Johnson (14) and Chris Tawiah (10) also hit double points in the convincing win.

Reading Rockets have made an impressive start to the season and currently sit third in NBL 1 having won five of their opening eight fixtures. Notoriously a play-off finishing side, the Rockets will be looking to secure another strong final standing.

Mitch Clarke has enjoyed a strong start to the season and currently leads the division in average assists with an impressive 6.5 per game. He’s also scoring 86% from the line and 51.7% - second in the division - from beyond the arc.

The Rockets have been bolstered by Summer signings Justin Hopkins and Victor Olarerin who have settled in quickly to their new surroundings. Hopkins averaged 22.1 points per game last season for Newcaslte. Olarein, meanwhile, is currently averaging 2.1 steals per game.

KJ Johnson (19.4) and Nate Robinson (17.8) both find themselves in the top 10 for average points in NBL 1 - with Johnson scoring 86.2 on free throws - he’s also averaging an impressive 5.8 assists per game. Adrian Scarborough has been dominant off the board and currently sits second in the division for rebounds per game with 11.8 boards.

The Rockets are currently the highest scorers in the league, and the Breakers have been impressive in their scoring in their debut NBL 1 season. All the signs point to another entertaining clash between the two sides that you can watch at Bletchley Leisure Centre this Saturday.
