Brimming with confidence after a good run of form, Breakers Men’s team headed north to take on Yorkshire Dragons in Halifax on Saturday evening.
The Inspire Centre at Calderdale College was the venue for this latest BCB Championship clash, and it was the visitors who would strike the first blow.
Having won each of their previous four games, Breakers jumped out to an 11-0 lead which became 13-2 when Dashawn Jackson drove for a layup, with all five starters getting on the scoresheet early.
The hosts had lost each of their previous four games, but dug in to fight back to within five late in the first quarter. That would be as close as they came however, as Breakers once again displayed their defensive prowess to limit scoring opportunities and take away easy looks.
It would be a true team effort as five Breakers players all hit double figures, Xavier Wilson leading the way with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Jordan Spencer delivered at both ends with 17 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. The full time buzzer sounded with Breakers taking away a 84-64 scoreline, moving their record to an impressive nine wins and three losses, much to the delight of Head Coach Ben Stanley.
“To come on the road and get a win like this is testament to the consistency we’ve found recently,” he said. “To hold another team under 70 points is a source of pride for us, especially against a Dragons’ side that can dominate the rebounding battle, while we also limited their scoring runs which was important.
“After a run of away games, we’re looking forward to being back in front of our fans at the start of next week’s double-header and we hope Breakers’ fans will make themselves heard on Saturday night!”
Indeed, the team finally returns to Bletchley Leisure Centre for that meeting with Loughborough Riders, with tickets available here.
